Galli Cricket
Remember the good old days of playing tennis-ball cricket in that narrow lane near your house as you struggled to place the ball through that tiny gap between that motorbike and the rusty old lamppost, all without breaking that cranky neighbor’s window? Well, here’s an opportunity to live it all over again in Spree’s Galli cricket tournament.
Rules
- Each team should have 7 players (6 on-fields + 1 super sub).
- One team may have only one girl player.
- The matches will be played with tennis balls.
- The match is of 5 overs per innings.
- As the name says, the bowler should throw the balls under-arm without any run up.
- There should be only 2 fielders on the off-side and 2 fielders on the leg-side.
- Each bowler can bowl only one over.
- A ball bowled above the waist height is a no-ball.
- Hitting a boundary will fetch 4 runs and hitting the ball directly over the fence is out.
- Hitting 3 consecutive boundaries will fetch 15 runs. (12 runs + 3 bonus runs)
- There will be a zone called BONUS ZONE which if one hits directly will result in 8 runs.
- Grabbing the ball one pitch one handed is out.
- If a girl hits a boundary then it is 8 runs and for a double it is 4 runs. (1 run is still 1 run and 3 runs here is 5 runs.)
- During fielding, if she grabs the ball one pitch two handed, then the batsman is still out.
- The penalty for no-ball (includes the no-ball case of bowling above the waist) is 2 runs + free hit and for a wide are 2 runs. Bowling 2 consecutive wides will result in a free hit.
- But if one hits the ball over the fence during a free hit, then it is still out.
- If a batsman fails to make contact with the ball using the bat on 3 consecutive legal balls, then he is out.
- There are no LBWs and leg-byes. (There are byes).
- The fielding restrictions will be explained to the teams on the spot.
- If a batsman is out, then the next batsman should be at the pitch within 30 sec otherwise he can be given out by the umpire.
- A win will fetch the team 2 points and a loss will give them zero points.
- Ties will result in a super over. There can be a maximum of 3 batsmen (i.e., 2 wickets) allowed to play and the same bowler should bowl the entire over under normal circumstances. All the above rules are applicable for the super over also.
- If there is a tie regarding the number of points within a pool, then the team with higher NRR will advance to the next round.
